Minnesota Online Parenting Class Highlights:

Why Do I Have To Take A Divorce Education Class?

The courts realize that this a difficult time for both parents and children. Learning how to successfully navigate your children through this relationship break-up is a skill that benefits the entire family. Minnesota courts like to see parents take educationally based classes early in the divorce process so they can utilize the information as soon as possible. Parents learn how their behavior impacts children, anger and stress management skills, effective listening and communication skills, how to set up a parenting plan and form a co-parenting team, and common mistakes to avoid.

Minnesota Divorce Specifics

The good news is that as of the last Census Bureau study, Minnesota had the 10th lowest divorce rate in the country. To apply for a divorce in Minnesota, you must have lived in the state for the prior 6 months. It is considered a "no fault" state so you don't need the consent of your spouse to obtain a divorce, you just need to show that the marriage is "irretrievably broken". The length of time it takes to complete the divorce proceedings depends on how long it takes for the parties to come to an agreeable compromise. It can be as short as 6 weeks, to years.

Minnesota Divorce Education Classes

Minnesota Statutes ยง 518.157 requires parents who have children to attend parenting classes. Generally they are 6 hours in length and are taken within the first month after filing so that parents can learn useful tools to help create an effective parenting partnership. If you overlook the classes, the judge can delay your divorce until you do. Our online classes are convenient, clear and easy to use. Distance learning programs can often be taken with prior approval from your judge, CPS social worker or your attorney.

Minnesota Parenting Class Review

"This was an easy and hassle-free way to fulfill my court divorce education requirement. It's hard for me to get to the weekly night time class that was recommended so my judge approved this online option. Thank you Dr. Novick for providing this service!" Cindy L. - Duluth, MN
