Louisiana Divorce Information

The most recent U.S. Census Bureau research published in 2011 shows that divorce rates in Louisiana were higher than the national average with 12,872 divorces in 2010. To file for divorce, at least one spouse must have been a resident of Louisiana for the 6 months prior to filing. Louisiana recognizes both no-fault and fault grounds for divorce. A no-fault divorce will be granted if the spouses have lived separately for at least 180 days prior to the filing. Fault divorce includes charges of adultery, a felony, abandonment for at least a year and won't return, or the spouses have been living apart for 2 years.

RS 9:306 Parent Education Classes

This statute allows the court to require parents to complete an educationally based parenting or co-parenting class for divorce. The class should cover such topics as the ages and stages, age appropriate expectations and consequences, effective communication, stress indicators and management, the emotional side-effects of divorce, parenting plans and conflict resolution skills. We have helped many busy parents get through this difficult time with the benefit of learning these skills from home!

Louisiana Client Review

"I learned that I was saying too many negative comments about my ex-spouse in front of the kids. I said them directly to the kids and they also overheard me talking to others. This was causing them additional stress that they just didn't need. This class made me rethink how I'm behaving and make changes for the best interest of my kids. It was easy to use for people aren't computer oriented." Cammie L. - Shreveport, LA
