Oklahoma Online Parenting Class Highlights:

Why Did The Judge Mandate A Divorce Education Class?

The courts realize that this a difficult time for both parents and children. Learning how to successfully navigate your children through this change in relationship is a skill that benefits the entire family. Oklahoma courts like to know that the divorcing parents are doing the most they can to be the best parents they can be. The goal is to teach separating parents how their behavior impacts children, anger and stress management skills, how to set up parenting plans and cooperative parenting strategies. Studies have shown that children of divorce can and do thrive in the long-run when the divorce has been conducted in a civil manner and parents do their best to get along and stay involved in their children's lives.

Oklahoma Divorce Specifics

Oklahoma has a history of having high divorce rates. In fact, according to the Census Bureau report released in 2011, the state had the 3rd highest in the country. In recent years, the government has spent more than $70 million in federal funds in a program called the Oklahoma Marriage Initiative, which is designed to reduce this high rate. If you want to get a divorce in Oklahoma, you must be a resident for the 6 months prior to the filing. If children are involved, there is a 90-day waiting period during which parents must complete an educational program. There are 12 grounds for divorce in Oklahoma, but the ones that are most commonly used include incompatibility, adultery, abandonment, physical or mental cruelty and gross negligence. The majority is granted based on irreconcilable differences.

Oklahoma Divorce Education Classes

A new law gives judges the authority to mandate a 4 hour parenting class to divorcing parties. The class should cover the effects of divorce on the well being of the child, the effects of violence, how to effectively communicate to reduce conflict and how respond to expected and normal child reactions and behaviors during this time. If you are interested in taking an online program instead of going to the weekly in-person classes, we suggest that you get approval from your social worker or judge to fulfill the requirement with an online class.

Oklahoma Parenting Class Review

"I spend a lot of time traveling for business and couldn't make the weekly classes that the judge originally asked me to take. I found this program and the judge approved it for my situation. I learned a lot and was able to take it at the end of my workday when I was back in my hotel room. This is the way to go for all busy parents!" Chloe M. - Bartlesville, OK
