Ohio Divorce Laws

The divorce rate in Ohio has been higher than the national average with about 58% of marriages ending in divorce. To file for a divorce, legal separation or annulment, the plaintiff must have been a resident of the state for the prior 6 months. The divorce process can't start until 30 days after the complaint is filed during which time the judge can order family counseling. The case must be heard within 90 days of filing. The plaintiff can file for a no-fault dissolution of marriage due to incompatibility or having lived apart for one year. Or, a fault divorce based on Ohio Code - Sections: 3105.01.

Ohio Revised Code Title 31 Chapter 3109.053

This addition to the law states that the court can require parents to attend parenting classes. Online classes have been widely recognized and accepted throughout the state of Ohio on a per case basis. If you would like to eliminate the stress of getting to a traditional classroom once a week, we suggest that you get ask your judge, probation officer, social worker or attorney for approval to take your program online.
